EP55: Denise Duffield-Thomas: How To Break The Cycle Of Not Having Enough

In today’s episode, I’m joined by Money Mentor, Denise Duffield-Thomas. Denise has spent the last decade of her life teaching people from all over the world how to think about money and how to make it. In a world where our income is the most uncertain part of our lives we need to have conversations with people who started out in poverty and found their way to the richness of life. Denise and I talk about finding our way to dancing with duality in the midst of chaos and tragedy.

Denise shares about how it is important to keep showing up and fighting for what we believe in but it's okay to also be joyful. We also discuss shame and guilt about having enough when other people don’t have much.

My favorite part of the conversation is when Denise felt that it was time to add deeper roots in her life she bought a rose farm where she discovered a spirit that had lived there. She named that spirit Edith, and since then she has tried to create a new relationship with people, herself and step out of her comfort zone every day.

She calls it breaking the curse as she was told that Edith makes sure that people move on from the farm every 3 years. Denise not only plans to break that cycle but also break the cycle of women not making enough money. This is a theme that comes up often in this episode. The idea of breaking cycles. Cycles of women not having access to wealth, negative money mindset, and poverty. She also shares how she talks about money with her children and what a difference slight changes in language can make.

“We need to take morality out of money. Having money doesn’t make you a good or bad person and not having money doesn’t make you a good or bad person.” (Click to tweet!)

And for those who want to write a book Denise shares some wisdom about her experience of self-publishing her first book and her advice to aspiring authors as well as the shifts that have happened in her own life since she put down roots by purchasing a rose farm and what that experience has taught her.
